Kinect hacker creates Air Guitar Hero

Move over "Guitar Hero," there's a new game in town and it's called ... "Air Guitar Hero."

Well, sorta.

British artist and designer Chris O'Shea has hacked Microsoft's new Kinect motion gaming sensor and turned it into one very cool air guitar. As in...a guitar actually made of air.

Check out the below video of the game demo he created. Not only does his prototype allow players to stand there, creating guitar sounds by simply strumming the air, it also projects the player's image onto a virtual stage.

O'Shea describes the project in more detail here. Sadly, he also has this to say:

To clarify, I am making this to experiment with the Kinect and full body interaction. I’ve no plans to attempt to bring this to market in any way. I am sure there are companies out there doing this already.

Yes, considering the success of Kinect music games like "Dance Central," a retail version of "Air Guitar Hero" can't be far away.

Then again, perhaps it'll be more like "Air Rock Band." After all, combine your air guitar with this air piano, and you're almost there.
